Understanding Fibroids
Fibroids, also known as uterine fibroids, are non-cancerous growths that develop in or on the uterus. These growths can vary in size, shape, and location, leading to a wide range of symptoms and potential complications. Understanding the nature of fibroids is essential for effective management and treatment.
Types of Fibroids
There are several types of fibroids, each with unique characteristics and implications for health:
• Intramural Fibroids: Located within the muscular wall of the uterus.
• Subserosal Fibroids: Extend beyond the wall of the uterus into the pelvic cavity.
• Submucosal Fibroids: Grow into the uterine cavity.
• Pedunculated Fibroids: Attached to the uterus by a thin stalk.
Recognizing Fibroid Symptoms
Fibroid symptoms can range from mild to severe and include:
• Heavy menstrual bleeding
• Pelvic pain or pressure
• Frequent urination
• Constipation
• Backache or leg pain
