Q & A with Dr. Uma Reddy of Fibroid Institute Texas
Q: Why did you decide to become a fibroid doctor? What personal and/or professional path brought you here, and how long have you been practicing?
A: My father, uncle, sister, and all cousins are physicians, and I’m married to a physician whose entire family are physicians. So, it seemed a natural path to becoming a doctor. Although, art, dance, and creative arts were of interest as well. I’m actually learning how to do the classical native dance called Kuchipudi for my state in India.
Q: What is your favorite patient success story, and what happened in that case?
A: A young lady came for a thyroid biopsy, and she also had fibroids. All her gynecologists told her to have a hysterectomy, but she wanted children one day. She was having horrible periods and was going through multiple pads at a time. She immediately had a UFE. Now, she has a boyfriend and is loving life. No more heavy periods.
Q: What about your practice makes you and your team different from similar practices?
A: As a fibroid doctor, we specialize in treating fibroids, and we only treat fibroids. We offer concierge service to all patients with a very focused and specialized approach. Most women that we see have suffered for years and deserve to live their lives without fibroid symptoms.
Q: What are you most proud of regarding the practice’s success, accomplishments, or patient impact?
A: The focus is on patient care and this one procedure is UFE. It’s refined and thoughtful. As a fibroid doctor, I like following patients through the entire process, and they can contact me anytime. I gain immense job satisfaction knowing I can help patients with such highly focused extraordinary care.
Q: How do you develop relationships with patients and ensure that you are on their side and part of their overall healthcare team?
A: I want to always think from the patient’s perspective—put myself in their shoes. I want patients to have the best care and provide a great resource for them. When patients are struggling and worried, I want to help them. If that means UFE isn’t a good option at that time, I will do the research to find them other options and make those introductions for my patients.
Q: As a fibroid doctor, what are some of the biggest challenges you and your team face?
A: Our challenge as a team is to get the patients to our office so we can educate them. We want women to know about their options. Women need to advocate for themselves and ask questions. We want UFE to be widely known.
Q: How do your past work experiences contribute to your growth as a doctor?
A: Being trained and practicing in both Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology gives me a greater understanding of MRIs, ultrasounds, and imaging.
Q: What are you most passionate about professionally? What most excites you about your job?
A: Helping women, making a difference in their life, improving their quality of life, and giving them a non-surgical option. There is a huge need, and I need to contribute to society by helping women who suffer from fibroids. Being a female, I can understand and identify with the issues we have as women.
Q: As a fibroid doctor, please share your favorite quote, philosophy, or mantra.
A: Hold on to your dreams, and your dreams will come true. I believe in second chances. I also believe it is important to not judge situations right away and to never give up. I want to be known as sensible and for my empathy-thinking from other people’s point of view. I feel strongly for my patients and don’t want any of them to suffer. I want them to be informed and make educated decisions.
Dr. Uma Reddy Can Help with Your Fibroid Treatment

At Fibroid Institute we treat fibroid pain and other symptoms using uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). UFE doesn’t involve surgery, like traditional fibroid removal techniques. Rather, as an expert fibroid doctor Dr. Reddy uses X-ray guidance during UFE to pinpoint the fibroids and blood vessels feeding them. She inserts a small catheter by way of a tiny needle into the radial artery on the patient’s wrist. Then she injects tiny particles to block the blood flow to the fibroids, causing the fibroids to shrink and die. Patients can expect an easy procedure performed under local anesthesia or moderate sedation.
Dr. Reddy is passionate about helping patients live their best life, and she looks forward to meeting more patients in the months to come.
